Here are the steps on how to sharpen a machete;
Ensure that the machete blade is clean
Use soapy water and a stiff brush to remove any dust or rust. Once the blade is clean, dry it using a clean cloth.
How sharp is the machete?
Examine the sharpness of the blade and try to use it to cut a specimen like meat in order to test if the blade edge is sharp.
Grid the blade edge
If the machete is blunt, begin grinding the blade edge. Use a file in grinding both sides of the blade. One may opt for vegetable oil to facilitate lubrication and to carry out grit during the sharpening process.
Obtain a proper angle for sharpening
Ensure that you obtain a proper angle for sharpening. Sharpen both sides using a file to achieve a razor like a machete sharp edge.
Test the sharpness
Test the sharpness of the blade edge. Carry out a preliminary test by cutting a piece of meat. A sharp machete blade will slide through the specimen smoothly.
Use oil to remove any grit
Add a coat of oil to remove any grit. Finally, we have a sharp machete that will be stored in a cool and dry place for future use.
